Block-sequential update schedules and Boolean automata circuits

چکیده
Our work is set in the framework of complex dynamical systems and, more precisely, that of Boolean automata networks modeling regulation networks. We study how the choice of an update schedule impacts on the dynamics of such a network. To do this, we explain how studying the dynamics of any network updated with an arbitrary blocksequential update schedule can be reduced to the study of the dynamics of a different network updated in parallel. We give special attention to networks whose underlying structure is a circuit, that is, Boolean automata circuits. These particular and simple networks are known to serve as the “engines” of the dynamics of arbitrary regulation networks containing them as sub-networks in that they are responsible for their variety of dynamical behaviours. We give both the number of attractors of period p, ∀p ∈ N and the total number of attractors in the dynamics of Boolean automata circuits updated with any block-sequential update schedule. We also detail the variety of dynamical behaviours that such networks may exhibit according to the update schedule.

On the dynamics of two particular classes of Boolean automata networks: Boolean automata circuits and OR networks
The work presented here is set in line with fields of theoretical computer science and biology that study Boolean automata networks frequently seen as models of genetic regulation networks. In the context of biological regulation, former studies have highlighted the importance of circuits on the asymptotic dynamical behaviour of regulation networks. This is why we first chose to concentrate on ...
متن کاملGeneral Iteration graphs and Boolean automata circuits
This article is set in the field of regulation networks modeled by discrete dynamical systems. It focuses on Boolean automata networks. In such networks, there are many ways to update the states of every element. When this is done deterministically, at each time step of a discretised time flow and according to a predefined order, we say that the network is updated according to a blocksequential...
متن کاملOn the robustness of update schedules in Boolean networks
Deterministic Boolean networks have been used as models of gene regulation and other biological networks. One key element in these models is the update schedule, which indicates the order in which states are to be updated. We study the robustness of the dynamical behavior of a Boolean network with respect to different update schedules (synchronous, block-sequential, sequential), which can provi...
متن کاملDesign and Test of New Robust QCA Sequential Circuits
One of the several promising new technologies for computing at nano-scale is quantum-dot cellular automata (QCA). In this paper, new designs for different QCA sequential circuits are presented. Using an efficient QCA D flip-flop (DFF) architecture, a 5-bit counter, a novel single edge generator (SEG) and a divide-by-2 counter are implemented. Also, some types of oscillators, a new edge-t...
متن کاملOn the Cost of Simulating a Parallel Boolean Automata Network by a Block-Sequential One
In this article we study the minimum number κ of additional automata that a Boolean automata network (BAN) associated with a given blocksequential update schedule needs in order to simulate a given BAN with a parallel update schedule. We introduce a graph that we call NECC graph built from the BAN and the update schedule. We show the relation between κ and the chromatic number of the NECC graph...
